For the hawks: Has the US Government ever engaged in an unnecessary war?

Vietnam....what was that all about? Now we trade with them and tourists flock there. No particular 'dominos' fell and Vietnam is just another backwater 3rd world country just as it was before the French, before Japan and before the USA. Kids in my cl, 7th and 8th graders, never even heard of it. That hurts, but it tells exactly why we shouldn't have been there. Historically it made no difference. Grenada? Does anyone remember that one? All of our interventions in central America? I dunno...it seems like nothing has changed for 90% of the populations there. If we didn't get involved would there be a bit of difference in the world? Not likely. Iraq? A failed occupation that in the end will mean nothing positive for the US wage-earner. As for 'justified', WW1 and 2 come to mind.....the Balkans, even though the 'wingers still hate Clinton for that one. Because of that intervention Europe didn't have to deal with a perpetual war, and that was a positive for the US. The first year of the Afganistan invasion....after that we became the 'Russians'...targets! After we finally get out of Iraq I doubt if we'll do anything that dumb again for 100 years. Let us pray!
