Why is my house is settling a lot lately?

If you are just hearing things, then it is normal expansion and contraction due to humidity and temperature. If you are seeing visible evidence, you need to be worried to some extent. You may want to have a structural engineer look into this to see if the amount of settling is dangerously high.
